Anemi

A Colorful village house

Lila and Pavlos, the owners of this beautiful guesthouse left the big city of Athens and choose for a different lifestyle. They found their new home in a small village called Kato Pedina, or Soudena as it was the village’s name in the past.

Anemi, the village house that overlooks the highlands of Zagori consists of 7 guest rooms, the Magirio, the old house’s kitchen room, and the farm.

On the ground floor, where the family’s farm animals were kept in the past, they have two guest rooms: Karina and the stone room called Roka, both built on a rock. On the first floor you find their baby rooms Anemidi, Rodani and Tylichtra. All three rooms are painted with similar colors as they were before, the old house’s colors. The green, the blue and the yellow room. The rooms Adrachti and Saita are on the second floor, having their own private veranda. Adrachti’s colors are a tribute to Zagori’s autumn colors that is so loveable. They left the internal shutters of Saita’s eight windows open to allow the light to fill the room. Each one of Anemi’s rooms is not only comfortable but also unique, turning your stay in Zagori to a fairytale experience.

In Anemi they want to celebrate life!

The Guesthouse kitchen

Magereio (the Guesthouse kitchen) is the soul of Anemi.

They expanded the Magereio and
on their monastic tables, made from local black pine (pinus nigra), you can eat, drink, talk for hours.

In their Inn you will find all necessary ingredients to make jams and chutney or pasta, as well as various other materials to experiment with. Tempera, charcoal and drawing paper, wool to make the first simple steps to make Felt (fabric construction technique from sheep’s wool), binoculars for bird watching from the courtyard or your room, a telescope to look at the stars (and airplanes), raincoats and umbrellas to walk in the rain, a guide to spot wild mushrooms … and in case you have forgotten your toothbrush just ask them, they will have one.

The Region of Zagori

A favorite destination for travelers, Greek and foreign, in search of another unknown and unexplored Greece. Zagori is walking in infinite paths, doing outdoor activities, rafting, canyoning in the gorge, climbing up to the alpine lakes, biking in the forest, learning all about loom and felt, discovering old monasteries, churches and unique Zagori bridges, tasting the purest Tsipour, a local spirit, native products and dishes of the mainland kitchen, listening to the music of Epirus. And so much more comprise the experience of Zagori life. The endemic flowers and herbs, wild mushrooms, fruits of the forest, bears and wolves, eagles, sheep and cows in the prairie and of course the people of the region living in these villages made of stone. Zagori is a place away, a world Behind the mountain.

Kato Pedina (Soudena)

Ideal as a base for excursions in the Zagori area, Kato Pedina (Soudena), is a unique village!

Located in central Zagori between Monodendri and Papingo, it has excellent access to Ioannina, just a 35 minutes’ drive. It has 25 inhabitants and many more sheep and cows. It is one of the oldest villages in the area, had special privileges during Ali Pasha’s rule. The plateau that lies just beneath Kato Pedina at 950 meters, retained a part of the agricultural activity, therefore today they can enjoy pure milk, cheese and a relaxing view of sheep grazing in the plain. The plain of Kato Soudena used to be the granary of Zagoria. In Anilia, just opposite Anemi, you find concentrated in the same area the largest number of threshing areas and stone huts in the Balkans, about 46, built with the technique of “xerolithias”.  These traces of a bygone era, reminds you of moments of the rural life in Zagori. In the village there are two hostels and the café of Vangelio and Panos, a lodge not only for Zagori’s inhabitants but also for Ioannina’s residents and other travelers. Last but not least, Kato Soudena is famous for its cultural events throughout the year and for its film festival.
