Lord Crewe Arms Hotel

Once Upon a Time…

Welcome to The Lord Crewe Arms. Once upon a time a twelfth century Abbot's Priory, The Lord Crewe Arms of today is just as it began; humble, honest and never overstated.

Home to 21 bedrooms, 7 Small Rooms, 8 Standard Rooms, 4 Deluxe Rooms, 1 Suite, 1 Family Suite, all coloured by the Northumberland landscape. Two restaurants, The Larder and Bishop’s Dining Room, serving ‘proper’ unpretentious country grub. One vaulted Crypt Bar brimming with the best ales around (hurrah, local galore!) And, with more than a thousand stories to go with all, ‘Here’s’ and ‘Cheer’s’ to the next chapter.

Coloured by the Northumbrian landscape and with an Abbot’s Guest House, Miner’s Cottages, and the villages ‘Angel of Temperance’ as your pillows of choice, you can rest assured, no two rooms are the same. Homely enough for slippers and socks, with sleepy linen, those creature comforts, and a touch of luxury thrown in for good measure, they promise that perfect night’s sleep synonymous with countryside air (after all, they have it by the bucket load).

North Pennine Hills

They are very good at setting the scene for a relaxing ‘staycation’ but putting your feet up is never more satisfying than after a day full of our favourite antidote, Northumbrian fresh air. Hit the world-famous moors for an activity of your choice and don’t forget to pack your Lord Crewe hamper to get you through the day (…and all the more closer to that well-deserved glass of wine by the fireside).

Outdoor Pursuits...

With a prime spot high up in the North Pennine hills even the countryside novice can’t help but want to get their sparkling Barbours muddied there; Country Living eat your heart out!

Shooting

Celebrate the arrival of the ‘glorious twelfth’ shooting on Britain’s most productive and (they may add) exhilarating grouse moors. With a gun room, drying room, boot room and a chef with a knack for game; The Lord Crewe Arms is the ideal hunting box for shooting parties throughout the season.

Fishing

Quite literally at the bottom of the garden they have their very own private stretch of the River Derwent; the challenge is to land their native ‘broon trout’, from March to September. If it’s bigger fish you’re hoping to fry you won’t have to look much further, the Derwent Reservoir and the Tyne on their doorstep.

Walking

Northumberland and the North Pennines are famed for their rich array of walks; lucky for them they fall within both! With open countryside, rolling hills, rugged coastline, and a wealth of varied footpaths, this is the perfect place for a riverside ramble, or a more challenging long distance trail.

Sailing

Just a couple of country miles from the Lord Crewe Arms is the Derwent Reservoir. With a thousand acres of open water on offer, and just a few fisherman dotted in the distance for company, take to the waters and enjoy your sport with like-minded fellows – all you have to do is ask them.

Cycling

With its rolling hills and rural landscape, Northumberland is a ‘gem’ for cycling routes. Weaving along quiet country lanes expect dramatic backdrops, coloured landscapes and vivid skies. From the sea to the hills you are truly spoilt for choice; north toward adventure!
