Temple Tree

A Boutique Resort of many cultures

Antique buildings of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian origin, make up this 12 room, 13 suites, 8 villa hotel. Each building has, over its 70 - 110  yr old history, created its own heart and soul. The boutique hotel is a cross between a guest house and a luxury villa. Guests are treated as friends and house guests.

You are welcomed not only to the estate but also to the island. The owner and staff personalize each guest’s individual stay. As the estate is small, guests become closer to the staff, their culture and their hospitality. Nothing is too much trouble, the atmosphere is informal down to the honesty bar in the Straits Club House.

Straights Club House & Restaurant

This house originally called “Bahagia” was from York Road in Penang. Built in 1920s by a Eurasian family, it was then sold to a Malay family in the 1960s. It resembles an old colonial building with verandas and beautiful carvings on the high end of the walls to let the air flow through.

It now houses the resort reception, restaurant, bar, library and pool table. The wide verandas are perfect for reading a book or having a late lunch. The servants quarters at the back have been converted into the restaurant kitchen.

With a capacity of 22 pax (including tables by the pool) it is a perfect location for small, intimate celebrations. They will be happy to work with you on a special menu. Also, the longest pool of Temple Tree facing a magnificent 100 year old Chinese house can host your pre-celebration, sunset cocktail.

A quiet and peaceful scenery

Chinese and Indian influences

The moment you step inside the yellow-colored front house you meet the Cocker Spaniel, a beautiful happy dog. Good to know that part of the hotel’s funds goes to supporting an animal center. James the owner informed about Bon Ton Resort their next door neighbours. Bon Ton Resort and Temple Tree are 2 different hotels run by the same management. So the good thing here is that you are free to use the restaurants and pools at both properties. It really feels like an old plantation, it's very quiet in a beautiful setting and very friendly staff. There is a little fence that seperates the properties, Bon Ton has white little houses, typical Malay style and Temple Tree larger houses with more space for seperate rooms. The houses have Chinese and Indian influences and some are original houses brought over. All in a quiet and peaceful setting.
