Blaue Gans

Boutique Lifestyle

They turned the oldest inn of Salzburg into the city's first boutique hotel. It has become an unusual and vibrant place in Salzburg's best location in the Museum and Art Scene District, opposite of the Festival Hall with its famous horse pond, and on the main shopping street Getreidegasse with Mozart's Birthplace being just a few blocs away.

No Mainstream Design but something Unique

This building from the 14th century lacks 90 degrees angles and perfectly straight corridors. All 35 rooms and suites are individually designed with natural materials and mastered by local artisans. Over 120 original pieces of art accompany you during your stay and provide moments of surprise and subtle entertainment.

Have a look, you can stay in the very heart of Salzburg!

Urban Hideaway in the city center of Salzburg

Getreide Gasse

Set one foot outside the door and you're already right in the middle of what we call Salzburg's Golden Mile. It used to be called the Trabegasse; they still use the expression "trabig" to mean busy.  It's been there since the 11th century, the mother of all shopping streets.

Geburtshaus Mozart

A couple of houses further down, on Getreidegasse 9, is the place where the greatest musical genius of all time was born, the quill in the hand of God (Nikolaus Hanoncourt). It's likely that Mozart visited their building: 18 letters refer to the inhabitants of the later "Däublhaus", named after Franz de Paula Däubl, a friend and colleague of Mozart at the Hofmusikkapelle (Court Music Orchestra).

Festspiel Haus

The facade of the Große Festspielhaus is right in front of them. It holds 2,300 people seated, and there are often several hundred more people gathered on, in front of and behind its huge stage. The Hofstallgasse is described as the most beautiful interval foyer in the world

Pferde Schwemme

At the back of the building is the Festspielbezirk (Festival District). The horses belonging to the Archbishop's bodyguards were reared in the Pferdeschwemme (Horse Well) before being taken to the Hofmarstall (the current Große Festspielhaus) or to the Reitschule in Fels.

Mönchsberg

The mighty face of the Mönchsberg towers right outside their windows. Seated at the top is the Fortress, the Museum of Modern Art and a secluded winery. In summer, cows graze on its meadows. A real paradise and local recreation area in the heart of the city.

Museum der Moderne

In the past a spot of respectable gambling used to go on here: Salzburg's gambling casino was located on the Mönchsberg until it found a new permanent home at Klessheim Castle. Today they say Faites votre jeu! (meaning ..place your bets!) to the international artists who exhibit their modern art here. The Mönchsberg lift to the Museum is also situated just a few metres from the Blaue Gans. Admission to the Museum is free to their guests. Enjoy the wonderful Museum restaurant with the best view in the city!

Mirabell Garten

You don't have to like Baroque garden architecture and its approach to Nature, but the Mirabell Gardens has something magical about it nonetheless. The modern neighbourhood surrounding it, featuring the Ropac Gallery and the newly built Mozarteum University Salzburg, makes for a pleasant contrast.

Festung Hohen Salzburg

Perched like a crown above the city, the majestic fortress complex that is the largest of its kind in Central Europe. It was the favoured haven of the Archbishop - mostly from his own people. Surely at its most stunning on a rainy November day.

Welt Kultur Erbe

The gift of God and human creation - that was how Stefan Zweig described the essence of the city before fleeing Salzburg from the Nazis. An overwhelmingly beautiful ensemble of all manner of architectural styles set in charming rural surroundings. UNESCO thought so too: Salzburg's old town has been listed as a World Heritage Site since 1997 - and they are right at the heart of it.

How to get there by car

If you'd like to drive up to the Hotel to unload your belongings: Please enter Herbert-von-Karajanplatz into your navigation system; please note that there is no access in Getreidegasse. Their staff will be only too pleased to give you a hand unloading. They will also park your car for you (until 6 pm). Your car will be safely stowed in the public car park opposite for the duration of your stay.

Guests are entitled to the Blaue Gans special rate of EUR 18 instead of EUR 22 for a 24-hour parking ticket. Collect your exit ticket at Reception.

If you don't have much luggage, you're best off heading straight for the car park Altstadtgarage A. The address for your satnav is Hildmannplatz. Drive into Terminal A and take the pedestrian exit Altstadt/Getreidegasse, which is directly by the hotel. (You just have to cross Bürgerspitalgasse first.)

Convenient parking is available at the "Altstadt" underground garage in the Mönchsberg.  It is located directly opposite the Hotel.

Weinarchiv - La Tavolata

Their Wine Archive (Weinarchiv) used to be a jazz cellar with vaults that are centuries old. It now stores their precious stock of wines. They open it up for festivities from 8 to 50 people, and call it La Tavolata which means something like: Let's all have a great evening together at this long table. You can be sure that whatever they serve up has been home-made at their food manufactory and presented on an array of dainty plates and bowls. Everybody gets stuck in, helping themselves and their neighbours. Sharing is caring!

Guest garden

Blaue Gans Open Air. An urban oasis as a Mediterranean dream world in the middle of the city: olive trees, figs and palms, a spectacular view of the Mönchsbergwand included. Many of their guests tell them they have the most stunning guest garden in Salzburg. Prime location

What a location. Primary shopping street and in shadow of fortress. Beautiful old building. Loved the original windows and their openings. We had a problem with noise from air conditioning noise on roof. However staff moved us to lower floor without any hassle. Highly recommend.

Sweet hotel

I Miss this sweet hotel! It was in the perfect spot! The room was huge, bathroom wonderful. Our room overlooked the massive fountain and the street was noisy all night long. We didn't mind, but next time I'd get a room on the opposite side!
